Lucifer Plants
in Plants
I need advice. I have a big clump of Lucifer plants which had a poor show of flowers this year. I dug most of them out but left in the soil about 7 plants. Do I need to cut the top off now?
Secondly...the bulbs I've dug up have lots of little bulbs attach to a big bulb. I like to replant some..how do I go about doing this? Do I plant with the little bulbs attach to a big bulb or otherwise. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

I think the little ones will come to nowt, but nothing to lose by trying.
If the top growth is very long, I'd trim it back a bit to avoid excess water loss.
This one sounds up Verdun's street . I'm sure he'll be along later.
You can leave the foliage to die back itself FC.
The little bulbs are the healthy new bits of the plant so just plant those if they're detached from the older, bigger pieces. If they're all still together, just plant the whole thing. It usually does the job well enough, but others may say to separate them and take all the old bits off!
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Lucifer tends to make chains of the newest years corm on top of last years, which is on top of the previous years etc. Only the youngest corm will flower next year, the rest of the chain can be discarded. Rejuvenate the soil with a general fertiliser or blood, fish, and bone , before replanting.
May I mooch in please? I had the same thing happen.
Does that mean that the newest ones are too close to the surface and should be replanted a bit deeper? Could that account for the lack of flowers?
Sorry for mooching.
I'm not really.
pp, they normally sort out the depth by themselves. Isn't nature wonderful?
Mazin!
Mazein?!
Contractile roots. Amazing
And b*****s to get out when you don't want them anymore!
