As I do this sort of clearance several times a year the best way to tackle it IMHO, is to strim or brush cut the whole area down and then treat the regrowth with SBK as other have previously said.. This time of year though is not the best time to do it. You can cut it all down now and if the weather holds do one treatment now. However spring is the best time to apply it when the new growth comes up. If you clear it now it will at least give you an idea of what you'll be left with after treatment. It normally takes two, sometimes three treatments to be really effective.
