irish yew - standishii variant

Does anyone know if these are happy to live in a pot? I want some for either side of my door in 45cm pots that are sunken into the ground.

If they are sunk in the ground, you could cut the bases off the pots to enable the roots to spread.

Hey thanks for the feedback. Do you know the difference between the Fastigiata Aurea and the standishii variant?? After trawling the net for an hour the only thing I can find is that the standishii grows slightly broader, and slower -  1m in 20yrs, and the aurea is 5m in 20yrs. Is this info correct? Which would mean even though they appear the same, the standishii would be better suited to a planter as it's slower growing.

PS I don't want to cut the bases of the pots because the holes are in a newly block paved driveway.

I only suggested it because the OP said the pots were sunken in the ground.

Hey guys thanks again for the replies. Yes I thought it seemed incorrect regarding growth rate...

This is where they're going. They're actually 40cm pots but they're decent ones they don't taper towards the bottom. Think they'll be ok in these then? What size standishii's do you recommend I get? I was thinking 90/100cm? I've been ringing around local nurseries apparently not so easy to get hold of at this height.

PS Verdun if its not too much trouble I'd love to see a pic of the ones you have in your garden.

Wow that's a beaut! Nice planting. Love how you've got grasses mixed in there.
