Osteopernum ?

Can I plant my potted osteopernum? In the garden and will they come back next year ? They are still in full bloom  and I keep dead heading them  but I will want their font to put wallflowers in soon .

  • Lots of the Osteospermums sold for summer bedding are tender and won't survive in the garden. There are some that are perennial, usually the one that is pale purple with a darker back to the petals - Osteospermum jucundum is the scientific name.

You could always plant yours out and enjoy it for a bit longer in the garden, and you might be lucky and see it again next year!

  • Could they be overwintered in a greenhouse?

  • I took cuttings which over wintered fine in an unheated greenhouse.
  • Thanks all image good advice as usual  .  I need to really clean the GH  so it's outside for most plants at the moment . Will be grateful if you could predict early frosts  Oh Verdun fortune teller image

Mine were here when we moved 4 years ago and still going strong.

Much depends on location I'm sure.

    Devon.
  • Free plants here as well. Just found three little hellebores when I cleared some leaves from a bed. Hope they like their new pots!!!

  • Agreed, I found a self seeded astrantia yesterday, only added the plant in spring and a free baby already! Really cheered me up.
