They often seed around. I collected some from Heucheras at work and they've been useful for filling gaps in the front garden where I don't want to spend too much money! They were from Palace Purple and the youngsters were all lighter in colour but have actually got a bit darker ( perfect north west position) and look good with a dark Actea I have behind them - similar coloured flowers as well. They work nicely with the new, young foliage of the Rhodie nearby in spring as well.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
So I'll visit my window cleaner (cos he has one at the gate) and drive into the village and check out the flowers beds for weedlings. Should I wear a balaclava! I live in Norn Iron....not sure I'd get away with it!!!
No Takers on the "gimme stuff" thread. maybe I should extol the loveliness of these wee plants. They don't seem to be very popular.
ppauper - I think you'll find lots of people here have them
I have this one in a shady gold/green/cream border. It's actually a Heucherella - Heuchera crossed with Tiarella ( that opens up another world of plants! ) and changes colour a bit in autumn. Alabama Sunrise - golden foliage with crimson veining

You make me very happy. I've ordered that for my Winter planting with Skimmia rubra, some bronzey goldy viola and some crocus for later in similar shades plus the obligatory variegated ivy. I have some very unhappy variegated euonymous that were here when I moved in so I'm going to use them as well; see if I can cheer them up a bit. How do you keep that bergenia under control? I got some to use as ground cover for a particularly manky bit up at the road where we leave the bins out. I'm hoping they'll get huge! Should I plant them with a bit of space around them for getting biggness (sorry if that's too technical a term!!!)
I made some stuff up in a previous thread @10.11. Skimmia rubella is actually what I've ordered. Viola amber kiss and crocus chrysanthus herald. If my order ever arrives it will have free stuff in it as well.
So if I'd had my glasses on I'd have realised that you keep your bergenias under control by planting primula instead! I can't big up your picture so I was squintin! Sake!

That way - if you have one you particularly like , they'll be the same as the parent.

I don't have a Bergenia in that pic - do you mean the primulas at the front right?
Bergenias can get big - I've had the white ones for shady spots which don't try to take over the world, but the pink ones get much bigger - I think.
