  • So will this lower plant do the same job as the larger plant I've just started to grow from seed in my veg garden?

    If it's 4 - 5 inches high it's not comfrey.

It's not wild comphrey welsh onion but if you look up symphytum you'll find a list of a dozen or so species varying in height from this small one through the larger blues to the very large Symphytum officialis

i have some in my garden.. and yes it is pretty.. and the bees do love it.. so as i am a keen wildlife gardener i will keep it and control it..

can you tell me does it have a preference wot where it is .. or can it tolerate anywhere in the sun, shade, poor or good soil..

It will survive most places gf but the better the soil the better the plant. It won't mind shade but the bees prefer sun

If the flowers are blue and pink and it's low growing it could be lungwort or pulmonaria. Do the leaves have pale spots or splodges?

As a complete newbie I feel a bit embarrassed about offering a reply but this sounds like a plant we saw growing by the roadside near our house and I identified it as Russian Comfrey.   Bought 3 plants from Ebay and they seem to have all come up in their pots though will have to walk up the road and compare to make sure.  We noticed it as it was really buzzing and it had pink & blue flowers.  Seems it is very invasive but I am hoping to plant it to compete in the nettle patch then we might have 2 wildlife friendly plants.

Oh, but, it was about 18 inches or more in height so perhaps not.
