Can I bump this thread? I've put out winter flowering pansies and violas but despite the odd flower not much is happening. I've left them in pots, beds and baskets but none seem to be enjoying. They have plenty of green (except slug damage in the beds). Could it be due to all the rain and lack of sun (they are in full sun position, but obviously we've not had a lot)?
Try Iris unguicularis for a really stunning winter flower. Snowdrops aplenty and eranthis with them. Erica carnea and darleyensis come in white or pink.Mahonia. "Caress" too. Hebes will flower all winter.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Haha, I'll try the winter flowering heathers thanks Verdun. I always put primroses on my little cat Shadow's grave, he liked them when he was alive

Thank you Verdun, I was concerned that I was doing something wrong. I will hold out and keep fingers crossed for an immense display in Spring!!

The GCs really push the pansies though don't they? I suppose because they're cheapest and quickest to produce.
An improvement on dip-dyed heathers though
