I share a dislike of variegated Aucuba. It takes me back to my chilhood and young teens. I seemed to be the plant that was inevitably planted outside municipal park toilets in Manchester and when I see it the smells of stale urine and Jeyes fluid come backto mind.I loathe the smell of privet, it makes me heave. I dislike "architectural plants" especially Gunnera.
Gardeninglily1 I'm completely traumatised now - lots of my grandmas friends had pampas grass outside their homes in the 70's and now I'm wondering if they were all they seemed to be
With you on Choysia Sundance Dove - I've just hoiked out two that we inherited with the garden 5 years ago. Every year I look at them (and the hideous, enormous 10ft Phormium behind them) and kind of just accept that they are there, and then forget what they look like. Not this year - the worm has turned. A couple of weeks back I got rid of all 3 - oh, the joy, the liberation! The new husband was a bit anti removing anything at all, so would not help me - which spurred me on even more! Had them out in no time. Good riddance!
ah..Verdun..you've hit on another pet hate of mine...I can't stand red or yellow flowers, lol!!! But honestly I love all others. Except for begonias. And gunnera. And chrysanths. Better shut up, I might get kicked off the plant forum in a minute! (by the way, the choisya did perform well and I do actually like the fragrance...just too far into the yellow zone for me, sorry)
"check out the yellows in heleniums...usually mixed with orange/red/brown. Bet you change your mind......."
Verdun - you might be on to something there. Until last week I couldn't really get excited about heucheras. Now I find myself taking cuttings of next door's?

Some of you often refer to horsetail. Can you tell me which plant that is? I'm not familiar with it.
