The directions on the seed packet said when the plant is approximately 5 feet tall to snap off the top growing tip.  I did this with one of my sunflowers as I was unsure of the results. .....the plant grew lots of little sunflowers which are flowering weeks after the huge single headed plants.  I will repeat again next year.

  • We have a sunflower growing in our garden that is from either the birds, or the squirrels. This thing is humongous. It's at least 10 ft. talk, and has probably a dozen flowers that will be on it. I have never seen anything like it before.
  • We. Planted.our  granddaughters  sunflowers. From school. One. Of them  grew about  3ft  with. 1. Flower  and. The. Other one. Is about 14ft. Tall. And  it. Started. With  1. Big flower  then all. These new. Flower buds. Grew. It. Has. At least. 20. Flowers. Is. That  normal???

Mine have never been so good. The sunflowers (free Velvet Queen from GW mag) are going and going. I counted 54 buds between five plants. They've been flowering since July.

Mine have only flower this month!
  • My ones are all from the same packet of seeds but some have one flower and are yellow, some have lots of little pale yellow flowers and then there is my monster which has over 35 flower buds/heads and the ones that are open now go from rust to dark brown. Never seen one like it before but I will be keeping the seeds. Think there must have been a mix up in the packaging department 😊

I had a sunflower sprout up out of nowhere in my back yard. It was beautiful. I was going to give it to my daughter so I up rooted her and put her in a bucket for transporting. My daughter never came to get it, so I replanted it another location. However, she isn't doing so well. She has a huge head, thick stalk, and about 5 little flower heads growing under her huge leaves on her stalk. I'm heart broken that she is struggling, any advice on how to save her or the babies?
