I enjoyed last night's final more than the last few, although to be honest I can't really put my finger on why. There seemed to be a good atmosphere generally and I was glad they all got to do their show dances. I used to hate it when one couple was eliminated early on and we never got to see their show dance - all that effort gone to waste !
GWRS The line up did not excite me and it will all rest on whether i am home from the family party.
Thought the show dances excelled this year as they were more dance and less spinning running jumping and even flying. It would be because I come from an era when we had our feet firmly planted on the ground, must have been all that double digging and on your knees weeding and thinning out, there seems to be a tool for everything these days.
"Oh well" back to reading about the flat earthers and the moon landings were a myth society, they should never have stopped teaching science in schools.

GWRS That is a problem of living on the N.E Coast, I have stood on the headlands and either seen a lot of tragedy as the ships sank in calm seas, the lifeboat staying put in its boat house so no rescue then. Or seen the boats sail off the end of the flat earth and disappear into space never to be seen again unless they come back as UFO's. Or watched the tall ships sail out to sea and slowly sink below the horizon, the pennants at the mast head vanishing last. This happens even with binoculars so I am baffled flummoxed bewildered when people say the world is flat. I either want some of what they are on or want what we spend on the space station back those Astronauts must be sitting in some posh hotel sunning themselves. Then of course watching the land sink slowly into the sea as we sailed off in troop ships and thinking where has it gone will it be there when we sail back up hill? I know I will Google it.
I'm pleased with the result too altho my favourite show dance was Gemma's and she and Joe have made the most overall progress thru the series. I know Alexandra has technique and energy and a drive for perfection but some of those moves in the show dance were just ungainly to me and Debbie's show dance was too much ballet and off the floor.
Loved Gemma's Paso and Debbie's Arg. tango tonight and so wish Joe and Katya had done the Money Money routine which I still think is genius.
Only 9 months to go to the next series. Plenty of time to get the camera work and lighting sorted out so we can see their feet and their heads and see how good or bad the competitors are and not how fancy the technology is!

That sums up our opinion of Alexandra too. It wasn't just in the show dance but throughout the series, anything with a lot of leg movement seemed really clumpy as her feet hit the ground. Clodhoppery, my mum would have called it. Her ballroom stuff was generally much better.
Yes I know what you are all saying and I loved Gemma, would never have said no if asked to dance with her. It would have been a social dance as I know from experience for competition dancing you partner needs to be shorter and lighter. My dance partner back in the day was Florie six inches shorter than my six feet and slim as a lath. We practiced for hours with the dance teachers criticising every move and you knew full well it would be the tap on the shoulder leaving the much older couples who were in the clique. It was a cruel world and all amateur the professionals were from the big Cities.
Strictly professionals are brilliant but can you imagine social dancing with any of those lovely girls, you would probably freeze. They have to bring out the best in what they get and probably hope they get someone with dance experience, they can throw in some scissor movements show us your underwear and lets face it many of those watching want that.
Debby winning would have been good, a smack in the eye for those who say it is for the Babes, well Joe is 42 so us oldies got our wish. The weeks after Blackpool were the best and I was indeed happy with those in the dance off, enjoyed Saturday very much.
Just thinking back on the claims of one 'ism' or another which has plagued Strictly over the years. There have been been 4 'ethnic minority' winners in 15 series or slightly over 25%, so that's one claim blown out of the water. 75% of this year's finalists were female, oops there's another one gone.
Men have won more series than women, and it also is generally comparatively young contestants who win. Men v women winners is probably a poor measure as there is only one winner each year, number of finalists would probably be a better measure but I don't have that info.
Young v older. Could simply be down to the younger contestants generally having more stamina than the older ones and therefore being able to cope with the additional pressures of additional dances. Debbie McGee was clearly an exception to the rule, although it's alleged that she was totally exhausted, and at one point there was doubt about her making the final at all. If she performs like that when exhausted I want a lifetime supply of whatever she has

I think they summed it up nicely on Gogglebox the other night
" do you think they've just said " just run and jump at me v*g*na first" "
there did seem a lot of that going on.
