Dovefromabove, I loved the Foxtrot or slow foxtrot as we called it being instructed by the lovely Ruby and Florry for two years before I entered the big boys dance hall at sixteen. In to the Hall early, few men, an empty floor live band and plenty of willing partners often two or three in the same dance as they tapped in as it was called or changed partners mid dance.

I was thinking more the Dashing White Sergeant though we did do the polka. When they announced a dance where you changed partners sometimes we had to form three separate rings the floor was crowded, it was a chance for the none dancers to get a twirl, we did not mind taking a poor dancer onto the floor it was the way to learn. At the Hammersmith on leave and in uniform one of the Pro Dancers got me on the floor for a Tango, she told me she saw my dancing pumps (banned with uniform) so knew I could dance, that was one I will always remember.

Busy-Lizzy, David should not have been in the dance off, Alexander did by far the better dance.

Hazel You hit the nail on the head, Dancing was to us a relaxing way to pass the evening, the modern trend must have them all wound up like springs and watching closely you see the tension which leads to mistakes. My Late Wife and I danced all our lives from being very young we could walk on the floor usually first and be dancing before the music started. When the big halls died we danced in the local clubs or at Balls that still happened and what surprised us where the numbers of much younger people wanting to learn our type of dancing.

I have never found other programmes with Dance content but do get entertained by my Daughters and Grandchildren practicing for their next Modern Dance competitions, my Daughters after years not wanting to know and now very keen indeed, they go on dance cruises which often have the strictly Pro's  demonstrating. My Mother often said "what goes around comes around" now I know what she meant.

I read on-line today that Alexandra Burke is whingeing that everybody hates her, because she'd been in the dance-off twice.  No, people vote for the people they want to stay in and, for whatever reason, the majority obviously like others more than they like her.  That is not the same as people hating or even disliking her.  She needs to adopt a more positive outlook - she wasn't in the dance-off in the previous 9 weeks!

If I'm honest, what gets on my wick with her is her gushing about everything - "Huge honour to be the final dancer" for example - give me a break.  Somebody has to go on first and somebody has to go on last.

She is irritating isn't she?   It's not an honour.  It's her turn and she's getting paid.  reality check please.

Place your bets Ladies and Gentlemen.  Who's for the chop tonight?

  • Gemma said the other day that she weighs 11 stones. She has a lovely healthy figure, but dancing will be a lot easier for the smaller framed female dancers like Debbie ... although of course the age difference levels the playing field a bit. Alexandra also has a bigger frame which can make her look less elegant in some dances but she has learned to use it to her advantage in dramatic pieces.

I see that next Friday Channel 5 are showing 2 programmes about Strictly. One called "SCD before they were stars" about the judges and professionals,  and then "The Strictly story:fake tans, tango and a ten from Len" .

I suspect that it will be really interesting (and perhaps somewhat depressing ) to see how much it has changed.

As far as tonight is concerned, l am hoping that Joe and Gemma do well. I'm one of those who like a "journey" image

I hope that Joe and Gemma do well too, but the judges are often quite hard on Gemma. I think Gemma or Mollie will leave, hope it's Mollie. I had wanted Davood in the final. Alexandra is a good dancer, but she just doesn't appeal to me, too OTT. I don't even mind if Debbie wins, even though she was a dancer in her early life, I think she has done amazingly well for someone of 59 years old. However, I would prefer Joe to win.

  • I'm hoping Joe goes through. He's the last male left, hopefully 2 females in the dance off.

I'd like AB to go, she gets on my wick too.

I wanted Davood in the final too.
