Can't remember what it cost but I bought from a friend, who's mum actually owned it but she rarely drove. Must have been at the end of the seventies. It wasn't expensive - a few hundred quid - but didn't last long so I bought an almost new car which I had for years. A black Metro. I was so proud of it but it was a lousy car too!
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

No idea how much it cost as my dad bought it for me in 1974. Great car. Passed my test in that too. It was a pleasure to work on the engine as there was so much room under the bonnet. Wouldn't get that nowadays
(I don't think mine was ever quite as shiny as this one!)
45.00 for my first car a 1956 Austin A40 Somerset. Dad bought it for me in 1965. The suspension had gone, it you hit a bump it would rock up and down, I used to tell people I could provide sea sick pills if needed.
i couldn't see over the steering wheel, all I could see was the flying 'A'
used to look between. Huge steering wheel!
i have a photo I will post later.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.
Mine was a 2nd hand Fiesta( I can't remember the cost in 1983 passed my test in 1981 but didn't have a car, had a wedding instead)
OH had to stop at pub on the way home for a pint he wasn't used to spending money
My other cars I have bought
His first car was a Capri VRA 307K that I crashed into a telegraph pole just as Ford had increased prices on parts by 10% ..he still wanted to get married
Oh, how it all takes me back! My first car was a Hillman Imp (DYL 841J) and it cost three hundred and something in the early seventies. I had been driving a borrowed Imp (from boyfriend now husband of 38 years!)to get to and from college. When I had saved up some cash, I bought and fell in love with the car. I had a lightweight engine at the back where normal cars have the boot. It did fantastic miles per gallon. I cried when it had to be traded in several years later.
Glad I made you laugh RB - sorry it was sore though
I could see why the mother never drove it!
I've had several Fiats - all brilliantly reliable.
The only car I really miss was my jeep - Honda CRV. Those heated seats were a godsend after a long day's walk!
When I was expecting my first daughter, I had to sell my car when I stopped work as I wasn't going back and we couldn't have afforded two cars. We also had to move and I accepted an offer on my flat a couple of days after selling the car. Suddenly, I was jobless, homeless and pregnant!

My first new car was bought in 1978, a Morris Marina.... circa Red Robbo & tea-break strikes at British Leyland. Mine turned out to be what was referred at the time as a 'Friday Car'......absolute rubbish!
Wasn't funny at the time, but as the years have moved on, I suppose this tale has a funny side.
The windscreen leaked from the onset, to extent that the foot wells had a couple of inches of water in them most of the time. Each week for ages, I returned it to the garage (under the terms of the so called warranty) for the leak to be fixed.....sadly it never was. During one of these many visits I confronted the mechanic, asking why don't you fix it? He replied 'it's supposed to leak, that's why they named it Marina'.

That was always the rumour about Marinas - 'Friday' cars. Think all the Avengers must have been made on Fridays too
My Metro always had an oil leak - that was their signature fault apparently
