Grass in block paving

I have been maintaining the gardens in a private close for a while now. Everything is looking tidy and well kept as it should be. The only problem I have recently noticed is grass has been growing between the block paving. It doesn't look that bad most of the time but if you look at it from a distance in a certain light it looks quite bad. What's the quickest and easiest way to get rid of it? I'm refering to the entire length of the close so looking for a quick and easy solution. Digging/scraping it out would take forever! I've sprayed it with round up and although it kills the grass it is still there. Any help would be appreciated cheers

I had this problem in the block paving outside my house.I used Pathclear and it seems to do the trick for a season.

Mind you I did not have to do the whole road, just the worst bit outside my place.

I use Pathclear as well although I have to spray 2-3 times a year.

  • Thanks for the replies. If I use pathclear how long will it take for the grass to be completely gone?

    A week to 10 days ........

  • Thanks for the advice. I'm still skeptical as I've sprayed it before with round up and it didn't make the slightest bit of difference. I find it hard to believe that after 10 days there will be no grass in sight? Is this product that good? Sorry for going on but I I don't want to waste my money.

Do you mean that when you spray the grass it dies but you are left with dead grass still spoiling the paving?

I wonder, would a flame-gun do the job?  I've never used one myself.

I have (Aldi were selling them a year or two back) and it works but it'd use a lot of fuel to do a big area, and it's only supposed to cook the weeds, not burn them.  I suppose if you had a paraffin burning one (cheap fuel) and waited after cooking for them to die and dry (if the rain ever stops) you could go over it again and burn it off.

  • Yeah thats what I mean will pathclear just kill the grass like any other weedkiller? If thats the case theres no point in buying it I may as well just spend a week digging it out by hand image

The flame gun idea sounds like a long and expensive way of doing it.

Thanks for the advice Dove and Steve.

    Any more thoughts anyone?

Well, weedkillers will kill it, but it'll still be there - you can wait until it's so dead that the roots relax their hold and the winter wind and weather clears most of it away - but it'll look scruffy until then and it'll still need clearing up.

  • Hello Dove long time! Been sooooh busy with working and the new puppy. We have a huge patio, grass keeps comming up in between slabs, we tried every weedkiller, nothing worked, so Hubby has regrouted. No weeds on our paving done last year, (lots on neighbours) but he said they are not coming up from underground, but are seeded from on top of the paving from either birds our the plants themselves.
