Thank you all very much- I am very grateful! I have done some reading up and found this website: https://gobotany.newenglandwild.org/species/euonymus/phellomanus/ I will double check but I thought that the fruit on my bush were white- no pink or orange. According to that website, there is a variety with white fruit called the 'cork spindle'.
The striking red foliage in autumn does appeal to me however so we may have just here adjudicated in favour of the spindle bush at the back of my garden! In which case, the willow tree will have to be pruned back as I do need more sunlight.
I assume that willow has strong survival tendencies though (I have cut stems from it to use as supports and they always start sprouting!) so it should be able to withstand a good prune....right?
Yesterday I couldn''t get a view of these, might have been part of the general site issues.
Definitely one of the spindles. Count the petals Bushman
Spindle 4
Bird cherry 5
Wouldn't like to say E. phellomanus or not, there are a few to choose from. Not of mine are ripe but would be interested to see a photo of yours when they are
Bird cherries have proper white blossom, not tiny flowers. Both my bird cherry and my Euonymous Europa are now bearing fruit tho the cherries are still very green.

You mention white fruit, makes me think of bird cherry. Scratch the bark and if its not a nice smell then its prob bird cherry.
Thank you Bushman2- I will do that when I get home later.
