It's not rational Hosta,is it? I think it's because they're noisy which flutterbies aren't.
I find I'm not worried at all nut. Lots of the little butterflies I see when hillwalking are predominantly brown, yet I watch them happily. If I see a moth, I now say to myself - 'look at that little brown butterfly' and then it's no problem. It really makes no sense to be frightened by moths.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

that actually made me cringe , thanks
They are beautiful, but scare the bejeesus out of me.
Funnily enough butterflies don't. We once visited a butterfly "farm" in Malyasia and one the size of a plate landed on me. That was fine.

Maybe it's how they brush into you in the dark

BRUSH?????? are you crazy?????? The fly straight at you when you open the door on summer nights and try to kill you. tsk.
thank the heavens for bats I say.
It's a shame you're so far away Hostafan. A morning check of our overnight moth traps would be very different.

even the thought of a trap full of live moths gives me the willies.
I've seen traps in Cambodia where they trap them at night over water, in which they drown, then are eaten.
I had a phase where I didn't like birds flying near me.
I blame Hitchcock,
got over it now though

it's just moths.
At this time of year when I cut the grass , I'm surrounded by swallows hoovering up the insects I'm stirring up. I love it.
I'm with you hosts, don't like moths. That one looks quite yuk.
I don't think it looks anything other than lovely but if it came near me, flip knows what would happen.
