pruning
OOOh I did laugh at the jobs for next week--- pruning flowering currant and forsythia! Ours, and also even daffodilts, are nowhere near flowering- the incessant snow and cold being the culprits. I think mine might be ready to prune about June!!!! I live in quite a high area in Central Scotland. Oh for a bit of warmth- and I think the plants are wishing the same.

Forsythia suspensa and Ribes 'White Icicle' are flowering here (N. Cambs) I shall cut the forsythia right back because it's started breaking large branches off at the base. I have never pruned the ribes. I like its shape. Will I regret this in the long term? there's room for it to get fairly big.

Clearly we won't be able to trust the "when to do it" advice for this year if "they", whoever "they" are, can't be bothered to amend something "they" pull out of the drawer every year without even reading it. Perhaps "they" have delegated this task to someone who doesn't have a garden!!
Still just buds on the Forsythia here (E.mids) with snowdrops still in full bloom and only 3 or 4 dwarf daffs showing (out of hundreds still in bud!) I also like Ribes - that is also still only buds.

I love ribes as well Verdun. White Icicle is lovely now. I've taken cuttings and I might leave the present one as it is and grow another and cut back. See what looks best.
Only F. suspensa is out Bob. I think this is suspensa, looks like the pictures in the books and the growth and overall appearance are very different to the others. Bought it from a roadside stall years ago, no label
The bright yellow ones are still asleep.

Been out there today and I think the ribes was more out in my imagination than it is in reality. Nearly there though.

Used to have a forsythia but decided after all that I really couldn't cope with taht acid yellow so I pruned it to a stump and yanked it out. Good decision.
No sign of any spring flowers on shrubs here as it's still very cold with nasty easterly winds. Definitely not pruning weather.
Try the pale suspensa obelixx. Lovely colour. Naff growth style though
