Pole for washing line

I am trying to find a metal pole for a new washing line but need one at least 10 feet long because I eventually want an 8ft line and I am aware that it needs to go in the ground a couple of feet. I have considered a scaffold pole but am not sure how I would attach the line. I would be very interested to hear from anyone that has ideas on washing lines. Just to let you know, I am not a fan of rotary lines. Thanks

We don't have a pole - we have two of these fixed to the house wall http://www.wickes.co.uk/Addis-15m-Retractable-Washing-Line/p/119606?CAWELAID=120135120001179738&CAGPSPN=pla&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=&utm_campaign=Google%20Shopping%20-%20Garden&tmcampid=&tmad=c&tmplaceref=jJZcfmWm&tmcustom=mkwid|sjJZcfmWm_dc|pcrid|43364563852|kword||match||plid|&gclid=CI_n2eeQj8cCFUbkwgoddzIG9A
at the other end we have fixed spring clips (like on a dog lead) which clip onto a metal ring fixed to one of the wooden fence posts. That way when there's no washing hung out the line is retracted and no one get decapitated by walking into the washing line whilst gardening. They work really well.

if you can get a scaffold pole, get one of those bracket jobs which join them and fix the rope to that?
Or if you don't like my retractable ones, there's this http://www.mad4tools.com/galvanised-steel-clothes-washing-line-pole--post-24-metre-with-socket-7448-p.asp?gclid=CO7t04aVj8cCFRQatAodZ1sE1Q which has a metal socket in the ground to slot your pole into - but I bet it eventually welds itself into the socket and becomes immovable.

We have had two of those across the lawn, one either side. They are at least 30 year old, so pretty robust. The line prop is longer so the sheets get elevated higher than 2.4m.
Easier just to buy what you want.
There's nothing better than getting into bedlinen which has been hanging out on the line in a good breeze that day.
I've got two lines full of washing flapping away in the breeze

I've got big 3 x 4" square rustic poles and have clematis going up them.
