All the lovely independent garden centres round here have gradually died off and now it's all about finding your way through acres of china tat and yankee candles before you can find any plants and even then the plants are ok but so so.
I've had to go further afield to find anything. My current favourite is Capel Cottage garden nursery, Whetsted, Kent.
There was a lovely one at witch cross but it's shut now and there is a big family personality free nursery there instead.
I feel spoilt after going to a place my neighbours recommended today. It's a nursery rather than a GC and only sells plants, I came away with eleven plants for ??23.25. I think that's fab. I got a Crocosmia Lucifer for ??3 and I've wanted one of those for ages.
It's in the middle of nowhere, down a track and isn't advertised so all the people there must have been word of mouth the same as me.
Its in the fens so if anyone near Peterborough/Huntingdon/Chatteris want to know where it is, PM me.
Best one near us is The Dingle Nursery in either Welshpool or Guilsford. Having said that the last time we went the prices were such that we could not actually afford to buy any plants.
Other really good one is Morrey's near Chester. Excellent quality and great prices, trouble is we have bought everything they sell over the years and they do not seem to change their stock that much.
We buy most plants these days from Plant Hunter's Fairs.
We are near to Crocus and they do have a collection service and open days tho I have never actually had a day off on the right day to go and have a butchers!
When you find a good Garden Centre treasure it. One near us didn't even have any plastic pots. "No demand for them" apparently. Fortunately they do have 'Cotton Traders', 'The Works' plus various other clothing and food consessions so that makes it all OK.
Forgot to mention Charley's in Welshpool,Shrewsbury and Queensferry. Very good for hardware etc, not so good for plants.
On the Wirral, Gordale is really nice, if a bit pricey and Premier plants is excellent as a Nursery.
Bridgemere near Nantwich used to be really good for plants, but now that it is a Wyevale, it has gone down hill rapidly. We only go for the other outlets there these days.
Went to the newly opened Cardiff Wyevale Garden Centre today and sadly I can't recommend it. It is so sterile and there isn't a gardening feel about it; more department store and gift shop. Is this the way Wyevale are going generally?

Have you been to Pine Lodge Verdun, some nice plants there, very well kept.
i have stripped the pink one I also bought, which is like a Hotlips, but the tall blue haven't got any cuttings on it.

Pretty much. I only go to our local ones cos they have Maidenhead Aquatics along with them.
