    Steve, its probably just dormant. Its nigh on impossible to kill an oriental poppy.
  • Dormant I have seen, not dry and crumbly including below ground when I gave it a gentle tug!



    Ironic really since when I moved it three years ago, I spent the next two years removing what were obviously spontaneous root cuttings growing...

    Verdun, it's growing in an inhospitable shady spot under a climbing rose. I am grateful for anything that grows there in the summer!

    I would like to grow some grasses on the sunny side of the garden. Have you any suggestions?

    The stipa sounds great. I want to put them down the end of the garden but I would like to see them from the house. Is it practical to put stipa at the back of a widish bed and lower ones in front or will the stipa swamp them?

    I'm into foliage plants at the moment. I love the subtlety of a variety of greens and textures but not the really leery variegated leaves
