Garden no 3 that was a big transformation from how it looked concrete area to garden - looked much better and they got to go to a gc which was brilliant - I like the trips to the gc, interesting winter garden, those trellis looked fab just bit too expensive -  think it was nice that he used two different coloured fake grasses

Andy Leeds good point - I would of said if they mixed soil 50/50 of multi purpose compost and like you say John Innes no 3 to make planters not to heavy and not dry out in a few weeks if not kept up with the water  - big pots with fern could use more JI no3

All keep reporting in with your feed back on the gardens nice to know other opinions

  • I ilked this episode 3. This episode help me. I want  to improve my father's garden and the instant gardener assisted. However the programme did not tell me how to make the troughs and aggregates in regards their measurements and where to obtain the wood. Also it didn't explain where their obtained the turf. In addition, I would like to grow food product can someone tell me what kind of veg I can grow in troughs. Otherwise the programme was great.

Hello Corriettejune  - I know of this company that does fake grass https://www.namgrass.co.uk/artificial-grass/  and they do coloured grass

I think try places like B&Q marine ply, wood was 6inch by 2 and if you know size they can cut the wood for you, think AJ just overed lapped the wood so bigger some sides figure out the size by the space you have

Food in troughs try strawberries, beans up wigwams, lettuce, things you would like to eat that don't take up too much room

    hope this helps

They should have a website with infomation it would be handy

Hello Instant Gardener back on series 1 today, going around again

I have been watching all the new series 2

EP 4 nice jasmine great plant for scent so good for seating area, re shaping the lawn made it look better.   Poor bloke got paint all over his clothes hope they weren't good ones, deck path looked fab

EP 5 Thought good bit to do could of used another pallet for front of compost bin to make the gate, circles what used the bottom of the black dalek compost bins he could of used them for compost with a screen in front - good lot of colour, I  would like more senses sound grasses in the garden

EP 6 Pond area looked really good nice piece for the very large garden - great floating planters

EP 7 Nice colour in paint the stone wall with plants in was a nice touch

EP 8 Farm great screening using pallets - like the humps with the grasses great re use of things

EP 9 Danny loves the metal edging, nice path to shed and GH - what a difference a jet wash makes to the patio, AJ - oops the chimney planter empied out  no bottom to those things - nice flower beds

EP 10 Nice swap of gravel and grass area looked really great, like the heucherella plant

EP 11 Lots of clearing, strange shape bit of garden, nice peaceful area  at bottom of garden, little river of plants easier to look after, looked really good with the acers and stones

EP 12 Trug planter in middle of path not sure about that, like the idea of lawn mower storage under trug planter, nice plants he picked like the silvery one

EP 13 Very small space - great to have new fences, mirror good to bounce light around, games area brill, I would of put a rack on wall for the bike to go onto so out the way more of games area, looks much better

EP 14 Nice idea for the pallets planter and seating zone, good to add a bit of colour to the fences, think the could of painted the whole of the house wall, great plant pots

EP15 Big change to the garden as the bit they did looked terrible to start with, the lady had a nice garden the rest of it, nice to make a sunken garden

On the whole think Danny and the team did great on all the gardens that they did, and nice to watch on tv, was great looking around gardens they visited and into garden centres

The Beechgrove Garden (BBC2 Sunday mornings) produces fact sheets which summarise programme content.   The one for June 9th includes veggies in containers - http://www.beechgrove.co.uk/module_uploads/2/Factsheet_2016_-_prog_11.pdf

There'll be more in earlier fact sheets for this year but previous years are also available - http://www.beechgrove.co.uk/factsheets to browse through.

Google will bring up all sorts of plans for making containers and troughs, eg - http://theselfsufficientliving.com/diy-planter-box-plans-designs-ideas/
