Strawberries with miniature leaves at the end

Hi  I'm new to gardening but have some strawberry plants in a planter, I have just come back from holiday ( a neighbour kindly watered for me whilst I was away) I now have some sort of mutation.some of the strawberries have miniaturge leaves on the end of them, any suggestions what might have caused this and should I be worried?

Sounds like a runner coming from the plant,  completely normal, it is the plant trying to create another plant.  Allow this bit to rest on a small pot of compost and it will root to form a new plantimage If you want to post a pic we could comfirm it.

  • It's actually coming from the fruit

  • I will post a picture tomorrow.

Hi Helen image  That's less usual but I've seen it before:

No idea what causes it but I doubt if it's anything major.  Just on one fruit or lots of them?

  • Seems to be on a few, glad I am not unique thank you both for your help. The leaves on my fruit are actually coming out of the opposite end to the one that joins the stalk.

Malwina?  If you read on, there's a link at the end that tells you (spoiler alert!) that it doesn't happen in the second year.
