rose colour

Can anyone tell me whether the colour of a rose is affected by fertiliser used?

My DA rose grown in a container has been a rich crimson colour for a few years. This year it's almost Barbie pink.

The only thing I can think of is that it might be the slow release fertilizer that I used for its most recent feed. I normally use toprose .

In London. Keen but lazy.

I think it could be the fertiliser. I've noticed it with clematis too. Roses are hungry, thirsty plants.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

My Julia's Rose did that too, until I noticed that the rootstock had snuck up through the branches. The pink one was rather nice, so I'm tempted to leave a bit of it to share the space with the authentic brown one.

It might be a bit hungry. I let some self seeded geraniums grow underneath it in the pot. They looked good but have pulled them out now. It's definitely original rose,Pat. I'd keep both too. Brown rose? - predictive text issues? image

Look up "Julia's rose" -  the official colour might be described differently.  That's my interpretation of the colour.  Hang on, I probably still have the label in the cupboard so I might be able to give the official description.

Amazing! I knew that label would come in handy one day. "Julia's Rose is an absolute winner for all those gardeners who enjoy floral art. Its unusual colour blend of coffee, lavender and pink blushes on long smooth stems making this rose 'a must' for florists and gardeners alike"  Introduced in 1976 by Wisbech Plant Farm, U.K.

Drat!  I was so preoccupied looking for that label that I forgot I was cooking up some rice, chicken and giblets for the poodle and the pot had to be rescued by Hubby.  Luckily, it hadn't started to burn, just sticking to the bottom.  oh well, she'll still eat it I presume.

Pat E sounds gorgeous, I will look it up, is it scented?  I have found you buy a specific rose you want from different stockists, the colour varies anyway, I have bought Nostalgie I think I saw it at Chelsea, says chocolate, but I dont consider it brown, same with the "blue" varieties, have never heard of feed changing the colours.

I haven't heard of that either, but hey, whatever! I learn something new every day and that's the best part of gardening.

Some years ago there was a rose marketed, here in Australia, that was called 'Blue Moon'. I don't know if you got that in the U.K.  I think they were stretching the imagination to describe it as blue, however, it was very popular. I don't know if it is still around though. I've not seen it in nurseries for years.

My poor little poodle, who turned 13 in January only has half her teeth, so I prepare soft food for her. she thanks us by being a delightful companion.

I bought my Hubby a rose for our Anniversary called Twice in a blue moon, about 5 years ago. I would say it was a grey/mauve colour.   Its our Anniversary this week 17th (wonder if he will remember!!) Have bought him a couple of Rhodos and water hawthorn plant for the pond.  Is it lierally a "little" poodle I have a Phalane, he is 9 and having his teeth cleaned Thursday under GA, my vet says smaller dogs do loose their teeth quicker, and that you must get the tatar off quickly, because once it progresses to gum desease, there is no saving the teeth.
