I too in my salad days purchased Houttynia because it was 'pretty', planted it in a wall garden next to where we sat to eat BBQ.  It smelt vile! never did get rid of it, moved house.  I shudder everytime I see it for sale waiting for some poor unsuspecting gardener to be tempted by its painted leaves.

My Mum had some growing in one of her borders and was trying to get rid of it.  I dug some up to bring home despite her telling me that I would regret it.  I certainly didimage.  Good luck Steveimage.

The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • I have a sneaky spurge (label long lost) that pops up in random places but at least it responds, sort of, to being decapitated and it has the decency to be a tighter clump so it can be allowed to fill the odd gap in that bed!

  • On this general theme has anyone any experience of those new hozelock 'super heat but no flame' weed killing electric stick things?

  • I read a review about how easily one could set fire to the fence with those...
  • I quite like the tech idea of the hozelock thing, it seems to be basically a giant car fag lighter!

We use our flame thing for lighting the bonfire too. Tried it on weeds but the perennial ones just grew back.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
