Slugs

Ok so every night when the garden is wet the slugs come out from wherever they came from but they come out in the hundreds know they congregate for mating but it makes me ill to think my dog could get sick. I need to know if there is a safe for pets solution for the slug population in my garden.

Yes - go out and pick them up and dispatch them. Salt water in a bucket is a favourite method or snipping them in half. It's the best solution for keeping the population in check although many people use beer traps.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Ditto. I use the 'salt water swimming pool' method. It's a bit grim but it definitely makes a difference to the population. I just try not to look in the bucket image

  • I have Fibromyalgia and everyday is a struggle Standing and bending so picking up the slugs is a no no. I was thinking of using guiness to attract them. Get the happy before they die.

I use the cheapest bitter from Lidl in the slug pubs. No use wasting  the good stuff on them.

Chopping in half with a pair of scissors is the kindest and quickest and cheapest method.

And the most disgusting image Ugh!

I have been trying wool pellets round some seedlings with good results so far. You sprinkle them in a ring around the plants then water them and they turn into a woolly mat which the slugs and snails don't like to cross. This stops them eating your precious plants but doesn't help with reducing the population. Depends what you want to achieve.

I cut them in half with a pair of scissors. The birds or whatever eat them. Seems kinder than salt and you don't have to dispose of the bodies!

If you want to make sure your dog doesn't 'get anything' from eating slugs, speak to your vet. I think its called millibax, small pill once every three months, I think it is lung worm that some slugs carry. Hope this helpsimage

I have too many slugs and snails to deal with, to much rain to even make them live under plants, they are just completely brazen!
