It's annoying when you get something different from what you ordered, especially when you expected something taller for the back of the border and it ends up being shorter than it should be.
I've never come across Allium schubertii and after looking online they look a remarkable flower to me!
A lot depends on where you are and how old the bulbs are. I have new allium bulbs such as Allium sphaerocephalon planted last autumn that are still in bud whilst the new Christophii are almost at their full OTT glory.
Older ones of several forms are already going over and setting seed including tall white ones and puprle sensation and shorter purple chives. White chives are still flowering. Their nectarospordum cousins are just opening their flower heads. All are fabulous for bees and other beneficial insects and are good for companion planting with roses.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Thanks everybody for responding. I suspect they are schubertii - having scanned the web they certainly look like them. The devil is, I had planned Purple Sensation and have a load of them planted amongst Heuchera Lime Marmalade where I thought the purple would really be a great dramatic contrast. Now wherever I have these alliums, they are so pale that you hardly notice them at all and they are too short. Our sunshine has gone and it's been dull for days and forecast is dull for days to come. They are taking an age to fully open.
I'm a bit pathetic feeling so disappointed - thought I'd cracked something eye-catching for this year with little effort i.e. planting the bulbs to last a few years.
Not been my week. In the middle of having to take up weed suppressor with 4" of slate chippings I put down 4 years ago. I'd been casually tramping all over it, spilling soil, filling pots on the top of it and spilling more soil, until it became a right mess. I started to pull it all up yesterday and thought I could water blast the chippings and aim to renew the suppressor and put them down again. I gave up - took me hours to blast one bucketful amount of stones with mud everywhere using a sieve and several buckets. I'd need the hose on for hours to do it. So got despondent and have called someone to come and take the lot away - hopefully they will agree to do it. The suppressant is coming up really easily so the earth and chippings just need to be taken away. So now I'm having to think about what to replace it with that I can do myself. Probably gravel for the cheap quick option. However, I bought some 'decorative' slabs - then tripped over them carrying a couple and broke them. Bruised and battered and fed up. Ha! So going to have to get someone to do that for me as well.
A woman's work is never done - but - 'tomorrow is another day'. Sigh!
Hi nutcutlet. I think I'm just overtired and you know what it's like when your mind has the ideas and energy but the body rebels and doesn't fulfil the promises of the mind! Need sunshine to perk things up.

They're quite dramatic but fit in the border in a very different way to PS

My Alliums are all opening like that, whites and purples. I'm wondering if the weather has affected the development of the head?
I agree with paulk2, Mine are like his and have gone over now.
