good luck with your cbt mica we all have irrational fears i guess and that is fine but i think people on here are trying to show you that even though there are quite a few plants in the garden that are poisonous the risk to you or your son and the dog is minute, i hope you overcome your anxiety about the safety issues and you and your son enjoy your garden. My 2yr old grandson comes to my garden and we garden together, i teach him things he is allowed to eat in the garden and things not to eat, he now loves getting his hands dirty (being at grandmas means doing mucky stuff) he knows we wash hands afterwards but i don't make it an issue of germs/poisons it is fun and if you can do that with your son in a calm natural way i am sure it will make you feel better too.
Thanks guys, I think when I get my own place I'd like a small garden and to grow. Vegetables and "safe" flowers and plants with my son. I have no issues about dirt or germs at all, just the toxic stuff.
Aww Hostafan1 I love moths! I like to hold them. Did you watch Silence of the lambs as a kid?
Hi Mica - having battled anxiety for nearly 30 years I can empathise with anyone who faces fear as a part of their life, whether it be poisonous plants, spiders or whatever is the focus.
My own anxiety is mainly social, so if faced with a room full of people or one full of foxgloves, I know which one I'd choose. However I do know that gardening is great therapy for any kind of illness whether physical or mental. There is such peace to be found in the company of plants, including the toxic ones
Good on you Mica for recognising the need for help and asking for it. One step at a time - and as Fishy says, gardening is great therapy. All the best. and keep posting?
He's ok Mica ((hugs)) you cannot be harmed simply by touching foxgloves - I spent my childhood running around my granny's garden with foxgloves (Little Folk's Gloves) on all eight fingers and two thumbs - I was fine
I touched probably 100 foxglove plants yesterday and so did my daughter - we're fine and will remain so. Use the evidence - it's all around you and on here.
You seem to think that the comments on here mean that your fears are rational - but that's not what the comments say.
What people have said is that they understand your fears, in the light of your acknowledged OCD - however, your fears are not rational - this is disordered thinking and will be helped by CBT.
Lots of luck - it will get better when you get the CBT - ((hugts))

Mica, I wish you all the best with your CBT. I've known many really close friends and family who have been helped immensely by it.
I have a hideous phobia of moths, yet not of butterflies, but unlike your issues I can get on with life without too many problems.
Again, I wish you well.

I'm waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too old to have seen Silence of the Lambs " as a kid"
All the best to you Mica. One day at a time.

Good luck Mica. I'm terrified of spiders even though I know they won't hurt me
