I'm just loving my newly planted English Rose called 'Tranquility'. She is very leggy and still finding her way at the moment in her new home, but feels me with hope for colour, perfume and joy for the summer ahead. I have scattered various wild flowers in the same bed so I'm hoping for something quirky, random and a bit unique. Will post a photo later this summer

I was given a big bag of wild flower seeds from a friend but haven't decided on location yet.... Any recommendations? Thinking maybe amongst perennials in flower bed to pack in 'cottage style' but interested in views of experts out there
Well Tranquility has finally budded. Been away for 6 days and 4 buds have appeared !!

There she is … Tranquility .. the perfect English Rose. She started off looking like Norah Batty and in the blink of an eye has turned into Sophia Loren.
What a beautiful bloom. Clearly your nurturing has paid off.

Wild Edric, I look like nora Batty, so there is hope for me, then? I recently planted a New Dawn rose on a rose arch over a bench, we had one a few years back, gorgeous smell and repeat flowering, well, bought it from a very reputable rose specialist nursery, and it has no smell!!!!! The smell was the reason I wanted it over the bench
Tried wild flower seeds, no luck, then perenial wid flower plugs, l got one peace poppy, about 4 inches high and then eaten, so this year I treated myself to l strip of wildflower meadow turf,.Reviews said it takes 6 weeks to bed in and start looking good. Got a friend who lives near the RAF bases in Suffolk, she gave me loads of peace poppy seeds, not one germinated!
Nanny B - I planted New Dawn 2 seasons ago & have found that the fragrance is very light unless the conditions are perfume perfect. I'm hoping the scent will develop more when the rose is older. There are some other comments elsewhere on the forum about roses having disappointing scents when they are very young plants - so there is probably hope for our plants! It is a very pretty rose isn't it?
Personal rose favourites this year have been Roserie de la Haie and Wisley 2008. They are only 2 year old plants but both are already very good sizes, healthy, have had masses of blooms and really excellent perfume.
I planted Handel and Prince Albertine on advice as wanted vigorous growth..... Handel kept its promise and working its way up a fence.... However Prince Albertine a disaster ....even with feed, TLC, etc we live and learn with gardening don't we....,
