  • As Edd  and others have said, try Nemaslug nematodes. They DO WORK! But you have to apply properly and when the weather is a little warmer. I do this every year and manage to keep the gross little blighters at bay.

Sadly, in my tiny urban garden, there are no hedgehogs, but my friend who has loads of them coming through her garden, tells me that she has no slug problem at all. The hogs get'em all image

    Have a look at http://www.hedgehogstreet.org

And good luck with slug busting! It can be done safely and without chemicals.

Uh-huh..... image Sounds 'wonderful' Verdun! image I'll pass on the kind offer though- I'd prefer to have the broad beans that the slimy plague had mauled before I rescued them and deployed the Nematode Elite Battalion in my raised bed! image

It has gotten uncannily cold again- this morning the water that collected on top of my raised bed cover was frozen. Tomorrow's forecast is a low of -2 and Thursday's is -3! image I suspect that the nematode population will be suffering.

I have decided however that even before my next scheduled treatment of nematodes arrives, I'm investing in another one-off dose to apply next week when things are a bit warmer during daytime. And this time, I'm 'inviting' some slugs into a bucket, with an island of their favourite greens in the middle of said bucket, surrounded by a pool of nematodes! image Anomander's Nema-farm is coming soon!
