I even have a ladybird box with holes in and Smothered it with ladybird food and nothing has happened I saw a few about three weeks ago near my forget-me-nots. But it has been very windy and cold
I realise your lady bird observations are on the other side of the world, however, here in Australia, I collected seed heads from parsley (flat leaf) last autumn and plonked them into large paper bags inside the house. Later, when I decided to separate the seeds from the other bits, it was absolutely swarming with ladybirds and larva. Needles to say, they were safely tipped onto various rose plants. My point is, that maybe other seed savers might find a surprise in bags in sheltered cupboards. Worth a look.
I've got a few hanging around on my hollies, as soon as an aphid appears they gobble them up, I've seen a small army of them marching on my nettles which are covered in aphids, sadly I think the ants won the battle but they made quite a mark on the aphid population.... + I've seem quite a few when I'm out on my dog walks.
I've got lots of blackfly and haven't seen many ladybirds but yesterday I noticed a weed at the bottom of the garden is covered with ladybird pupae (which I don't think I've ever noticed before). I think they're harlequins though but at least they might eat the blackfly once they hatch.
Oh dear runnybeak, how totally ungrateful!! I'm very pleased to say that I have a lot of babies (punk rockers as one forum friend called them) and I keep moving them around to where I can see aphids .... But now am worried that no food as I can't see any more around! Sure they'll find food, sure really is plenty of greenfly etc around there somewhere

Still only seen one ladybird but the blackfly population has certainly increased over the last week or so. No greenfly though.
