Blue Onion - if I had loads of money and a tiny urban garden I might just appreciate the chic horror a bit more but I have seen far more beautiful gardens full of gorgeous plants in the Artisan gardens at Chelsea and they are much more to my taste and I do like to potter with my plants and that garden had zero pottering potential and not much for wildlife either.

BB2 - what the judges look for has been discussed in previous Chelsea coverage but I think maybe it could have been made clearer to these contestants before they started.    I'd have loved to be let loose in a huge plant sweetie shop and wouldn't have wanted to sacrifice my own treasures from home.   The professional designers source their plants months in advance and have reserve lists in case the season is not favourable for having their A list at peak condition.

I wonder how much input Sean will really have at Chelsea.. it might be more of an apprenticeship role perhaps?

Well, maybe it wouldn't have been a sacrifice if the plant could go back again!  I have just grown hundreds of little pink things from seed I collected last year.  And taken some basal cuttings from a very versatile white delphinium.  If I were on the Chelsea Challenge programme, I would pack some in my suitcase.  If the contestants were able to source from all the nurseries in the UK, like the exhibitors do, that would be a test of knowledge and planning ahead.  Going to one nursery does make the plant choices more luck than judgement.  Yes, the judging criteria could have been clearer from the start.  Like in ice skating!

I thoroughly enjoyed everything about the Chelsea Challenge.  In the past I have criticised Joe Swift as he frequently came across as sub servient.  However, in this programme, I thought he was extremely knowledgeable, full of positive criticism and really added so much to my enjoyment..  Hope he carries on with his new attitude at Chelsea.  No more looking surprised when someone he is interviewing states the obvious.

  • I watched it in the end and enjoyed for the most part. A little dragged-out by the inclusion of the formulaic bits to the detriment of the gardens plants and combinations.

Hi I've just finished watching the garden challenge which I downloaded could anyone tell me was the winner featured during the BBC's coverage of the Chelsea flower show and which episode was it on? I have watched the small show garden episode to no avail and don't want to trawl through the entire 15 episodes trying to find the garden challenge winners show garden. Thanks.

Barry - he was featured loads, but particular bits I remember is when the Queen visited and the first programme.  He had a large garden, not a small one, which might be why you can't find him. We heard the runner up (Paul) talking at Chelsea too - think he is doing one of the Hampton Court Show gardens (one of the ones where they have a limited budget) ......so two careers launched out of one TV showimageimageimage

Not only are you 8 years too late @kentjames45265272, but you'll just keep getting reported and flagged because of your profile, until you get the hint, or the mods grow a pair and remove you permanently.

  • Really strange this account is still around...the profile is clear about being commercial anyway.
