And if you would like it to fill out a bit more you can just cut one or two pairs of leaves off the ends of the long stems and this will encourage it to push out more new growth lower down.

I think it's ok too - though the pot looks quite small for the size of plant.  I'd consider repotting it into a slightly larger pot; then it would almost certainly put on some more growth and produce more leaves.

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Thanks for the reassurance. It's just that it looked great then suddenly wilted and i thought it was reacting to something I'd done.

Just went out to repot the plant and some of the leaves look very dry/dead. Fingers crossed i can rectify it!

Check there are no nasties in the compost eating the roots.  Fingers crossed...  image

Not sure why that photo has come out sideways, but if you click on it it loads correctly. A week after repotting it and making sure it's not too wet or too dry it's getting worse unfortunately!

I think it may be getting too much sun chris. Is that a glass/perspex balustrade it's behind? Acers tend to like damp shadier spots so it's probably just too hot and dry. If you can give it a bit of shade it will stop it drying out too much. It's surprising how quickly a plant uses up the moisture in a pot. If you have other plants you can place around it, that will also help. image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Is that a frog or toad in the pot, behind the soil meter?

Edit: just looked at the first pic and can see it's a plastic one! image

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Hi yeah it's a little mosaic type frog haha

And thanks we did try moving it out the sun but might have to try even more shade. I didn't see it as a concern as it's survived for about 2 year in the same position. I'll try giving it more shelter though and see if it gets better.
