Still a bit sleepy, because in the middle of the night we were woken up by the sirens of the fire brigade. Apparently a fire 4 doors down the road. Scary!
Not much gardening on the web today.
Grünzeug has a special about lavender, medicinal herbs and rose hips.
-A visit to the Tulsa Botanic Garden with former host Steve Owens -Former host Ray Campbell plants a fall garden -Extension Food Specialist Barbara Brown prepares peach and mango salsa
And finally a link to the site of a German broadcaster.
Yesterday they aired a programme about tomatoes. Only a short clip available on their website, but all sorts of other info about tomatoes, including a whole load of receipes as well. In German of course.
Thanks so much Kleipieper for all the researching you do, keeps us all so well informed on a wide and very informative range of gardening topics. Big thanks
Solutions for wasps, we learn about the hottest colors in dahlias, we see some great late summer books from Timber Press, we water plants with veggie water, we learn about the history of the Oregon Coast Aquarium and their native plants and we visit the Monteverde Cloud Forest and why it is important to us in the NW.
Since there are so few garden programmes on the we at the moment, and even PBS hasn't uploaded any new episodes, I had a good rummage through the archives of a few German broadcasters and found some real goodies.
First a two-part series about private gardens in the South West of Germany.
And the first episode of a three part docu-soap about the people on an allotment site in Munich. Some real characters there, and interesting to see how different German allotments are compared to the ones in the UK.
I definitely won't be watching anything on the web until tonight, because it's a gorgeous sunny day. Just right for working in the garden.
Here is what I've found today.
First of course Gardening Australia.
Here is what's in this week's show.
Picture Perfect: John explains how to use the form, colour and texture of plants to create pleasing and eye-catching combinations in the garden.
Outsmarting the Aphids: Jerry shows how to fight aphids using turnips!
Cane Control: Tino's busy maintaining his raspberry canes and sowing a late crop of broad beans and spinach.
Country Style: Costa explores an expansive and productive country garden that has been designed to fit perfectly with the era of the house.
FAQs - Part Shade | Changing Names | Avocado from Seed: Answers to frequently asked questions from emails, letters and Facebook.
Colouring In: Sophie is planting some colourful local native plants that will thrive in her waterwise driveway bed.
Time to Plant: Tino explains why now is the best time to plant broad beans in cooler climates
Maidenhair Tree: Jane profiles the oldest ginkgo in Australia
Sky Food: Josh drops in on a high rise balcony gardener to give some pointers on how to overcome the exposed and challenging conditions to grow great productive plants.
And as usual, the programme should be available here from around 12.00.
Finally something which isn't really a garden programme.
I know there are a few fans of André Rieu on the forum and Dutch TV showed a concert which he gave on the Island of Mainau in Lake Constance. The island is known as the flower Island and the concert contains footage of the gardens.
This really is something which you either love or hate...
