    Yes rhubarb stalks do a great job cleaning pans. What a great food - dessert and clean pans!

    As recommended earlier in this discussion, I tried this cake.

    I used half quantity (except for the rhubarb) and an 8inch cake tin. I omitted the custard and just served it with the warm cake. Really yummy.

    I believe an active ingredient in bar keepers friend is oxalic acid, which is the poison in rhubarb leaves. Oxalic acid can also be used to bleach or lighten wood.

    he he! My rhubarb and custard cake came out of the oven a little while ago and is currently being demolished! Great recommendation dove! Going to try a rhubarb chutney recipe this afternoon!

    I never have but I don't see why not - make it up quite thick.
