  • Some lovely stories. I do remember as a child digging up potatoes for mum for Sunday lunch . But I've only had this garden for 6 years and when I moved in it was a jungle I didn't know where to start a lot of hard work and tears and a lot of giving up but thankfully my dog Molly helped me through it all by being a forewoman. Now finally sorted I've had a go at veg and flowers but always ready to learn I've have found it hard to go in the garden this year since my dog passed away as she was always in the garden with me but found the strength in the end just by planting flowers thinking she would enjoy smelling these image

So sorry about your dog, it must be a real wrench being in the garden without her.

I love hearing what gets people started with gardening. We moved to Reigate when I was 3 and when my parents got settled they gave each of us a little bit of garden. Mine had a stone edge with aubretia hanging over it which I loved. The book "The Secret Garden" inspired me when I was a child. Then when I was 21 and just married I had my first garden and, with the help of my lovely mother-in-law (a keen gardener) I had great fun with it. I've had my present garden for over 20 years, which I made from scratch. When my children were small and we lived in Kent we gave them each a bit of garden. Now they are all married and have their own gardens. This has got away a bit from the original subject!

Thank you Tracysshed. My name is Liz so it was sort of obvious!

Sorry about your dog. I lost mine last year, she was 16. But I had another, a border collie. He's bit a bit down without her and he's 10 now. Would you consider having another? It wouldn't be a replacement because your dog was still your special friend, but it would be a new character in your life to become a new friend.

I wonder if Tricia Sneddon will come back and tell us if any of the replies were helpful.
