The above site says "ultimate height more than 12 metres - ultimate spread 4-8 metres"

That's still one heck of a size - fine as a specimen, but how does it respond to close trimming and topping as a hedge?  For instance, does it keep it's lower branches?

If you need a really quick growing evergreen hedge and dont want anything special, go for laurel. Got mine from ebay, came from a grower in Scotland, so very hardy,  about 2ft or so tall bare roots. Plant the 18inches to 2ft  apart. You probably wont get them now until the autumn as thats the time bare root plants go in.

They need no special treatment, can easily be kept to a good shape and size, just keep nipping the tops so they thicken at the bottom. They grow in any soil, need no feeding.

Dont ever think of buying them at 6ft to save time, it doesnt work unless you are prepared to cut them in half on planting.

Of course, a nice mixed native hedging would be far better!

Here is a link to where I bought mine, I did go through ebay for the laurels but have since bought hedging and trees direct. I can really recommend this company, super plants!
