I'm another who isn't terribly bothered how things are pronounced but I can think of a number of times when I've embarrassed myself by pronouncing something so wrong that the gardening friend I'm talking to has no idea what plant I'm talking about. The trouble is that most plant names I will see written before I hear them so I'll just invent some pronunciation which seems logical to me but can be very far from correct!
Don't have a problem with pronunciation it's Red Hot Poker my problem is I can't get them to germinate whatever their name MD says their easy not in my pots

The right way to pronounce "kniphofia" is as they do in South Afrika, Germany and the Netherlands:
cnip-hophia
with the C as in "cut". "Knip" is the Afrikaans (and Dutch) word for "cut".
That's what Monty said
