Got to say I thought Monty pronounced it nip hofia.  He emphasised the word NIP.  Anyway, he is persuasive or has something about him........

I think it's just that he loves plants and gardening, and that can be so infectious.

The BBC have a department who advise on correct pronunciation but on newsnight last night presenter Allegra Stratton who used to be a producer on the BBC foreign desk was overheard having to be coached by Leanne Wood on the correct pronunciation of plaid cymru.

    Clematis pronunciation divides the nation.

Luckily it doesn't matter to the plant- they have more important things to worry about....

I have a Dictionary of Plant Names and the pronunciation in there is nee-fof-ee-a

However our family has always pronounced it K-noff-ee-a (the K is as it sounds in 'cat').

I think it really is a case of how you first heard it,nothing after sounds quite right!!
