Dianthus dying over winter? Please help :)

Hi all, I am just curious as to whether any of you know why my dianthus all died over winter, completely brown and lifeless. One of them was a pinks too and that also died. I didn't think these would die from cold weather??? Any ideas?? Thank youuu. Kay x

What species are they. One of my dianthus deltoids diet but think that was due to poor drainage. Some are only half hardy though.

Mine have died too, I bought them as plug plants and they looked quite healthy last summer. They were Dianthus plumarius, modern garden pinks. I have now looked them up and found that they aren't always hardy in cold wet winters.

I have had mine for years with no trouble, this year tho the plants look really dry and discoloured.  I have given them a good feed and  trimmed them up a bit, the ones looking really poorly are the sheltered ones! Strange? I am wondering if its wind damage?

I have no idea!! I'm at a loss of where to plant them!! I think I may put them in my border and then put them in pots in my greenhouse over winter??

How strange, I have 2 varieties that have been out all Winter. Both putting on lush growth and about to start flowering.

I have 3 which were great for the first 2 summers but have died over winter.  I wondered if it was due to the cold. Only 1 looks like it may survive.

Ok, so maybe I will plant them in the border and just leave a couple in this winter to see how they do but bring the others in to a pot in the greenhouse! Thanks for all your replies, I hope all of yours grow really well image
