GREEN APHIDS KILLING SPRUCE

HELP ME PLEASE ...Green aphids are feasting on my blue spruce tree.It is breaking my heart ....  a lot of the needles have dropped & others discoloured.

I do not want to use a chemical spray as my veg patch is next to it & a natural pond & plenty of wild life . I have blasted them morning & night with a water hose to rid them. I have after many hours of trawling the internet found a recipe using veg oil & washing up liquid & water??

Has anyone used this or any advice at all as i want to save my spruce whether it takes years to look good again..thanks VictorianChild

I've had these horrible little things before, I sprayed them once with provado ultimate bug killer and they all disappeared! I'd get some quick before they do any more damage!

Just to add, I tried the washing up liquid thing and it failed miserably. Get the proper stuff and be done with it!

  • Asked at GC today about the wretched thing's and was strongly advised to wash off again and again putting old compost bag on soil underneath to try and keep them off the soil around the plant(mines an precious Acer) then when they are under control give it a really good feed he suggested a seaweed jobby then mulch .he thought that provado was a very last resortimage  yesterday's thread organic aphid control was also suggested

  • hey thanks for all advice image i know it sounds silly but had sleepless nights worrying!! ...defo green aphids tho -

  • Hey thanks - Had the spruce in for 2 years & no problems & totally pampered it - it looked glorious - i just thought it was over winter discolouring then suddenly -just days the needles where falling off!!!

Will the hose work to prevent mites then? I have a recently planted blue spruce too with no sign of any problems yet but I have been looking out for any sign of mites.

I did buy some Natria spray which is meant to be organic, but it says not to use on new transplants. I spent £40 on my beautiful spruce and I really don't want it to die! I've been hosing it every evening anyway just because it's newly planted and it's in full sun all afternoon, but I didn't think this would affect mites!
