Strange weed in my lawn

  • I have never commented on line before, however when I saw "strange weed..." I immediately thought, horsetail - yes Equisetum Arvense. They appeared about seven years ago in my garden. Get to work quick. Don't let them grow they spread to neighbouring gardens. Remove at least 5 inches of soil within a metre and pull out all the roots. Remove your plants and pot them if necessary.  Pour vinegar mixed with cheap washing up liquid and water, in area along with any weed killer. Put fresh soil on top and cover with a thick membrane and leave for a least three to six months. When planting double the permeable membrane. I'm now re-laying slabs and I have had to put ready mixed concrete down, then a membrane - finally sand and cement before laying the slabs. It's hard work.  When I move houses I will checking the garden with the scrutiny as the building itself. All the best.
