Online plant ordering

I am a big fan of www.Coblands.co.uk  as I have always had quality plants and on the odd occasion they did not have my plant I got a better, more expensive, version substituted instead. image

  • I got a box of six late season Salvia from Crocus and they all died off within a week of planting. Four of them are back up ad sprouting this year. Can't argue with half price. Everything else they supplied has been great. They do say if anything looks dodgy when you get it, take a pic and let them know and if it hasn't picked up in a week they'll refund and replace. Can't say fairer than that.

Some other companies don't seem to water plants before boxing, this seems to be half the issue.

That is to save on courier charges...but they can come unstuck if the courier takes days to deliver it!

I live in the Isle of Wight and many companies charge an additional £10 to deliver here. It is cheaper to have stuff sent to Ireland, for heaven's sake. I can stand on the hill behind the house and see Portsmouth and Southampton but it would still cost an extra £10 for a dicentra.

Posy, I'm on the Isle of Man and I experienced the same £10 with Peter Nyssens.  So, for £5 worth of bulbs I would pay £15 including courier charges.  Apparently it's because their stuff comes from the Netherlands.  Do Parkers, Suttons, T&M charge you £10?  We get all their stuff for around £4 delivery.

Parkers, Sutton's and T&M just have a standard charge but the quality sites like Crocus and many smaller nurseries charge £10. I had a chat with the crocus people, who were very sympathetic and said they couldn't get a carrier for less. I think they may require a better delivery service to make sure plants arrive fresh and the right way up. What ever it is, it really limits what you order!

I bought 3 standard roses from j parkers, they were in bad condition when they arrived with hardly any roots, I was also told to wait and see how they do,well over the last 2 years had some good flowers  but loads of suckers coming from the all the time.I eneded up getting rid of them.

I have been generally disappointed with online ordering the last couple of years.
