That was a hard pick! I love robins, wrens, blue tits and blackbirds - all great little characters that grace my garden with tonnes of character but all of the birds on the list have their own notable qualities. I went for wren - a bit like Britain it may be small but it's vocal!
I forgot to say we also have Dunnocks but after Stumpy my bald bottomed Black bird who visited us for 3 yrs and would take raisins from my palm it has to be Blackbirds for me Her tail feathers did grow back after arriving with just bone and a sore bottom she had her own bath on the patio and if I was late with her grub she'd come to the front window and complain.
I would have voted starlings, but they weren't on the short-list. They're the cheekiest and bravest ones in my garden and act as a signal to the other species that it's safe to come down and have some breakfast. I think the most awesome sight (in the true sense of the word awesome) is a flock of thousands of starlings giving an aeronautical display.
Have to agree GBC we lived in Somerset for awhile and use to go to watch the starlings in the autumn on the levels just as they were settling down for the night the sky was black with them and the noise then suddenly it was as if they fell out of the sky and it went absolutely silent an amazing site.
If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.

I like robins, wrens and bluetits.
Peregrine falcon for me, the way they have adapted to live in or city's and they keep the pigeons down.
And if your lucky enough to see one in full attack mode is staggering.
But they are not on the list so Hen Harrier next best.

TGB, your choice of 'peregrine falcon' is appropriate & just fine.
I started this thread specifically to give the opportunity for us gardeners to have our say.....absolutely nothing to do with the national survey.

I vote Robin, lovely little cheeky birds.
Wrens are great little birds...I can remember them on the farthing.
