I think Plant B could be a Delosperma.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • Hello Lucy L

First one could be Phlomis - a sizeable shrub - tlerartes lots of sunshine and drought conditions

and second one could  be delospermum (ficoides) - a sunlover - sometimes called Livingstone Daisy

bit surprised to see them in Scotland though, as I grow both of these in the Languedoc to survive the 3 months of drought we get there.

    What does anyone else think?

Great, Yes Plant B is definetly Delosperma looks exactly like the nubigenum variety - thank you very much! This plant seems to be coping very well in my garden (atm i have another slug infestation so they've been eaten quite a bit) but now i am on the case (every night with a torch lol). The coldness hasn't seemed to affect them either. Last year they were easily my favourite flower and flowered for ages! I bought out of my local nursery so maybe they have been aclimatised well?

Plant A, can't say for definate that i recognise the Phlomis, but it doesn't mean that it isn't, I will keep my eye on this one (when i get home both they will be labled Plant A & Delosperma Nubigenum) I will have another few for you tomorrow too! image

I may be completely wrong but plant A looks very much like the oregano I have in my garden to me.  Does it have purple/pink flowers in the summer?

It looks a bit like mine too sjp, picking a leaf and rubbing in the fingers should give oregano away - pizza smell image

cant remember the flower of it, i would be surprised if it is as i have oragano growing in my herb pot n' had just planted that start of this year. I will see tonight if i can get any smell of it.

  • plant c looks like a lewisia - but I thought they were not hardy?

plant d refuses to enlarge. but looks like tradescantia

I await correction from those with more knowledge than me!

  • I agree with you (gg) Lewisia and tradescantia.  I live in Wales and had a couple of Lewisia growing in a wall for 2or 3 years before succumbing to 2 foot of snow.

Hi Lucy. I'm in the Scottish highlands, little further north than you. I'm glad to see Delosperma in your garden. I have been debating whether to buy some. I have had them in my basket a couple of times. Think I will give them a shot now. I'm afraid I can't help you with the ID of the plants. Even at collage plant ID was my weakest subject and I'm beyond rusty now. Good luck in your garden. image
