Should I soak these first

Do I need to soak theses Liatris bulbs before planting? Also can I plant straight out in the ground or should I plant in pots in the greenhouse first?

I'd soak them for 24 hrs Lulu.

  • ...and I'd do them in pots in the greenhouse to start with.

  • Thank you all image

  • Glad I checked this thread, I had 10 of these delivered yesterday and was about to just pot them straight up!

  • I have 3 Liatris Floristan White corms to plant. See attached image.
Do I soak prior to planting and if so how long?
And how do I plant in outside soil please?

I just plant them. They absorb moisture without any help from me.

Just plant at around two or three times the depth of the corm @fordmjjp84735. They can take a few years to get to a mature enough size to flower. Watch out for slugs when they emerge though. It can be a good idea to grow in pots for a year or so before planting out. They cope better when a bit more mature.
PS - there is no image showing  :)

  • Sorry the image of Liatris Floristan White corm was missing. Hope this helps. And thank you.

They can just be planted if you have a suitable site, or pot them up.
They're already shooting, so just make sure those new shoots aren't too deep, although I find them pretty adaptable in terms of depth. I'd be inclined to pot those up, leave them somewhere so that they aren't annihilated with weather of any type, and plant them in spring.
Ideally they'd have been planted a while ago, but they're tough little plants. Completely dormant corms can be planted quite deep.

Yours have shoots showing. I would just plant them. If you have wet heavy soil then plant in pots and put somewhere sheltered, like against a wall of the house. The corms can rot in wet soil in winter. I have never soaked them as in above answers. They are hardy and are fine with cold. Then plant out in spring.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
