I'm sowing today after buying JInnings No1 at the weekend
I hope to dig my trench also this week wish me luck
Oh dear, James....not sure about John Innes No1 John Innes seed compost is what is needed or indeed any other seed compost.
JI No1 has too many nutrients added, which may result in too much over winter growth. If it isn't too late, your JI No1 will always come in handy for potting-on.
Extract from my opening post: "Next you’ll need seed compost (not multipurpose). My own preference is for John Innes seed compost; this is loam based compost although non-loam types are suitable, provided it is specifically for sowing seeds."
In case of mishaps (got the T-shirt) I did suggest in my previous post "Keep in touch, re sowing the seed."
Just looked at bag and yes it's potting on compost I'm going to have to get SEEDING COMPOST no biggy as I have some other plants to pot on this week or should i say today now
Silly me, I just thought No1 was seeding compost my mistake ASSUME ass/u/me

You're welcome, Brumbull.....yes, these forums do have a good side.
I mostly grow them as cut flowers these days.
PS, It was The Archers messageboard.....sadly now closed.
sweetpeas and pots ordered now David so at the weekend I shall be digging my new beds and adding post to the garden to fix the wire netting
Netting fabric (like greenhouse shade) or the plastic netting the one with square holes that you use for fencing?

Well done, James. Hope the weather doesn't spoil your plans, there's still plenty of time to prepare the ground.
Keep in touch, re sowing the seed.
