I love the streaky ones - they're from a mixed pack so no idea which they are, but they're so pretty

Those are beautiful Dove and David image

I had finished for the night but have had to come back on because for probably the first time ever I disagree with Monty (watching GW catch up - with OH and big boy making very sexist comments but that's by the by!!).  Anyway, my point is, Monty has just been discussing SP's and said to cut flowers every 10 days to stop them going to seed......seriously???? I haven't cut mine since Sunday (because of my ankle) and today there were loads that had seed pods, all cut off now but that was 4 days........image

  • Monty isn't very good with sweet peas and loads of other stuff, OL. As you progress along this learning curve, you will spot a lot of other rubbish and may wonder if your admiration may have been misplaced.

Anyway hope your ankle soon gets better.

ps OL i seem to remember Monty saying last year 'pick EVERY day, but completely remove all flowers every 10 days, I did that anfd had loads of flowers for weeks ( unlike this year when by being a blithering idiot i have no flowers now at all)

Sorry, rosemummy, it wasn't my intention to upset you,,,trouble was that I was having a pretty rubbish day anyway and the sight of your dead sweet peas did nothing to improve it.

Although sweet pea growing holds very little mystery for me anymore, I was finding it increasingly frustrating to be unable to tell you exactly why yours were failing.

    Anyway, upwards & onwards. image

I went to a big garden centre yesterday and I was incensed to see their one and only sweet pea plant in a pot looking severely neglected! Poor sweet pea.

Ah, maybe I misheard RM, I was trying to listen in between OH and BB ranting on about needing fit women on to make it more interesting......see what I have to put up with!!!

Sorry Monty, will listen again image
