Hosta's
two years ago I planted some hosta's outside my front door. They flowered well the first year. last year I fed them in spring, and we had lots of leaves but no flowers.
They are in a west facing flowerbed, sandy soil with big trees nearby. My only thought is they were too dry ?
Is there anything I can do this year in order to help get flowers this year.
Planning ahead
Thank you.

Hosta's like moisture get plenty of well rotted manure in the bed then mulch with bark to retain the moisture. Message Hostafan as well, he's the expert, he has a great collection.

With the exception of So Sweet, white and perfumed flowers, most of the rest are washed out mauve colours .
I usually cut them out as soon as they show spikes!
I used to grow my hostas only for the leaves, but the later ones have good flowers too - and some are quite well perfumed. The bigger flowers I now leave on, but do remove some of the older more wishy washy ones so they can concentrate on the lovely foliage.
I usually remove the flowers of my hostas too - the plants bulk up quicker if you don't allow them to flower.
Pretty sure he's not
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
We grow all of ours in pots because they breed like rabbits
but they do take a bit of watering and slug patrolling. Haven't got So Sweet and will definitely look out for that one.(if himself doesn't double our collection again
)
Thanks for the compliments Dave and Verdun.
And Dave is right on another count. I AM MALE !!!!!
The fact I have a husband may have caused some confusion.
