I bought 4 apple trees from lidl about 4 years ago, 1 jonagold 2 cox and 1 bramley
they all produce big red apples of no recognizable variety and frankly not a great taste. so this winter.
I cut some russet stems and with help from my 80year old Italian allotment neighbor cleff grafted one of them last week. All I have to do is wait three years.
Just to confirm that it is not just those two stores. I live near a Morrisons and have bought at least 20 clematis from them over the past three years. I can honestly say that despite picking out all different named varieties I have ended up with nearly all the same variety, so do not be deceived by the pretty pictures, you are probably only getting a choice of two or three!! Very disappointing when you carefully arrange your planting with a colour scheme in mind!!
we have a local Morrisons and I would never have thought of looking there thanks Melspade. We also have a large farm shop selling locally produced fruit veg and meat and they usually have a large selection of plants mostly perennial , ,worth a look especially as WW says local nurseries are on the decrease,,and probably because we are getting things cheaper elsewher?
My local Morrisons have enlarged their 'garden' area considerably over the past year, now carrying quite a lot of plants, bulbs and accessories. Very tempting! I'm grateful to them for placing it adjacent to the cookies bar - it distracts me away, away from the cookies, I mean.

Aldi had raspberry canes in. When i looked for the variety it just said, long cane. No idea as to variety or even summer or autumn fruiting.
I brought two apple trees from there last year and they are going good
Yesterday I bought Hostas from Aldi, not named but nice photo on packet! Stated two per packet, and there were three inside. I was happy.
Trouble is the Lidl/Aldi staff don't know a weed from a flower, and I, for one, will regret losing my local nursery, who give all round value.

If im honest, i will buy plants from anywhere.....just too tempting!
and of course we mustn't forget visiting visiting friends for coffee and suggesting some of their perennials could do with splitting!!!!!!!!
