Your profile says you're keen on beans and as I'm planning to grow some French beans for the first time this year I look forward to you sharing your knowledge on the subject.
Hi Madges-Plot, welcome and I hope you get as much fun from this forum as I do.
there is a wealth of information generous shared.
we wanted an attractive water-butt for our courtyard and use an old wooden sherry barrel it's on its 9th year and only had tap changed once. I grow a jasmine at the bottom of it and have trained it up to hide the down pipe

Hello and thank you for the help everyone, much appreciated!
I have decided to buy a water butt from a manufacturer that's local to me water-butts.net This is the one I have gone for http://water-butts.net/acatalog/525_Litre_Water_Butt_-_Sandstone.html Looks strong and sturdy so it should last They sell quite a few different sizes. Doesn't look too ugly either, which is good so it will fit by the side of my bungalow nicely
just had a look at your choice which looks good - but huge! May I suggest you check the measurements to see if your path beside the bungalow is wide enough or isn't that an issue?
I'm rather envious though, we've got a large garden with 5 butts already and it's still not enough when it's very dry! The 6th is being installed today, weather permitting.
To All the water saving conscious people out there, at our last count we have ten butts all put to good use, three in a row off garage, two off shed, and others dotted around.. we don't have a huge garden but have placed 'em at strategic points so not lugging heavy cans too far. Also, applied for reduction on water rates which was accepted.. do have a look to see if you are eligible. If you have fish pond you can top it up obviously. we also have a small wildlife pond (bottom half of child's sand pit,) which had immediate results.. frogs & newts, all good fun!
