I'm even further south in France than B-L and the hellebores are just in bud, other bulbs like the daffs are through the soil but no sign of flowers yet. The only flowers out at the moment are the pansies in pots.

  • The bulk of spring flowers will come into their own in March.  My snowdrops are really nice now, and the first wild crocus open in the sunshine - no idea what they are - they selfseeded into the grass and they seem to flower for just one day, and then after  a few days they vanish.  The main clump from which they originated are not yet in flower.

  • My crocus (tommasinianus) natururalised in grass,

only last one day too, but that is because the rabbits get them!

  • Yes even though we live in the west country I have only 6 Daffodils in flower 1 Crocus a few clumps of very short stemmed Snowdrops and 1 Grape Hyacinth ! All the rest of my potted bulbs are a way off flowering though one or two are showing tiny buds. I was thinking only this morning that they are a bit slow but we have had low temperatures so yes be patient it's still winter....BRGHHHHHH !

  • thanks for giving it a name Buttercupdays - I always think of it as the base from which all other crocus were subsequently bred

  • its not spring yet, its still winter. image

you wont see most bulbs flowering for another month or so in Yorkshire, with the exception of snowdrops (and maybe crocus - if they're in full sun) which should be out now.

Iris reticulata usually come out before crocus

As a point of interest I decided to enhance my borders with some fresh daffs, various, . planted last autumn.  The daffs that were already there are now in bud and not far from blooming, the new ones are only just starting to show. I assume from this that they take a year o5 so to establish, so be patient with last autumn plantings.
